Planning

Before I can film I'm going to need to plan my setting, lighting, props and the overall filming in terms of story.

Lighting: For lighting I would want to close the curtains  to create an eery dark atmosphere however lighting is crucial as the audience needs to be able to see the room so perhaps I'd only pull one curtain. Moreover, if it is still unclear, I would hopefully borrow a LED light from media to highlight important props and moments in this first scene, i.e. the photo frame and the pills.

Setting: For the setting I require three different bedrooms as my film takes pace in a woman's room a child's room and an empty room, however the location that I have found is an empty house so it fits in perfectly for the empty child's room but I've had to adapt my initial plan as the woman no longer wakes up on a bed but on the floor suggesting she might be squatting, this then actually helps to give my opening more depth, story wise.

Costume:
- I want the character Debby to be wearing a red dress as red is often associated with passion, sex and promiscuity.
- I want the man in the opening to be casual, in jeans and a top.

Sound:
- I've already started to editing my sound by using sound clips from a copy right free music site called PurplePlanet.com. I've used two different sound bites and fused them together to create something original and in the later stages of my editing I will be using Garage Band to help me create non diegetic sounds to help create tension throughout my opening as sound is crucial in Psychological thrillers as the action could be fairly ordinary but the background music suggests different, which helps to create an enigma.

Props: I need many props for my thriller opening including:
- Photo frame.
- Pill bottle with pills spilled on the floor.

My Treatment

                                                                   Evaluation

After receiving feedback from my peers, I've once again adapted my narrative, I was told that, due to the restricted time allowed, I might not have been able to tell the whole plot and if I cut it, it might not have had the same impact as it wouldn't have been clear to understand. In light of this feedback I've decided to scrap the idea of the spectators as they would have been introduced later on in the film rather than the opening and I've mainly focussed on the character Debby and her mental state.

Above is a storyboard illustrating the three rooms that my film will be based in, the first one will be Debby's bedroom, the second would be the envisioned child's room and the last room will be either an empty room or a study. The little girls room and the last room is definitely symbolic of Debby's mental state as the little girls room is what she sees whereas the audience will see an empty room. This then creates an enigma through the ambiguity of the scene.

Here is my storyboard detailing the opening few shots of my character waking up and trying to remember how she got there. Mise en scene is crucial for my thriller as I'm relying on it to build the story due to the lack of dialogue.
Even though my film will take place in the house, I would still have to film during the day as I want a shot of my character looking outside the window. Due to my film being a psychological thriller I will include a lot of flashbacks as my character is suffering with amnesia, to illustrate this my editing will also be quite jumpy and frantic to mirror her mind.

My target audience for my thriller are people 15 - 45 as these are the people who will be able to relate the most to the storyline and would understand it better. I feel the younger generations would enjoy it the most, however people in their 30's and 40's will understand the deeper message more.

Thriller Storyboard

This is the first draft of my storyboard for my triller video.

This is a storyboard of the overall plot. The main character would be a woman called Debby,

  • the story starts off with Debby watching home videos of her daughter dancing and playing,
  • Debby hears tv from daughters room
  • backing track is slowed down version of rock a bye baby
  • Debby sees a little girl on a rocking horse plain with a dolly
  • the little girl turns around and her mouth is taped
  • Debby screams for her husband to come- turns around and the girl is gone
  • her laptop flashes and it reads "Come and find me"
  • Debby rushes to the bathroom and washes her face she sees a note on the mirror written in lipstick that reads "Mummy, I'm scared"
  • the weather outside is awful, there's a power cut and Debby
